List each asset and debt, carve out any separate property, then model a scenario: who keeps what. The worksheet totals each spouse's net position and computes the distributive payment needed to reach your target split — for example, one spouse keeps the house (and its mortgage) while the other keeps the car and is paid the difference. New York divides marital property equitably — 50/50 is a common starting point but not required.
